Role details
The Ambulatory and Elective Care at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Nurse Unit Manager to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity
The Nurse Unit Manager is an employee who is a registered nurse who:
- Is appointed to an advanced practice nursing position; and
- Demonstrates a specialised clinical expertise and/or specialised skill set.
About the Team
Specialist Outpatients Department
The Specialist Outpatients Department provides outpatient appointments for patients requiring treatment from a specialist. Patients are referred to the Specialist Outpatients Department by General Practitioner, Emergency Department or from another specialist within Mackay HHS. Telehealth is also a model of service delivery which is supported in this environment. Specialist Outpatients Department also encompasses the pre-admission component of the patient's journey from outpatients through to elective surgery.
Referrals Management Unit
Referrals Management Unit is staffed with Nurses and Administrators who process referrals received from General Practitioner and Specialists from Mackay HHS. Once categorised from the Specialist, the referral will be entered onto the Specialist Outpatients Department waiting list. The patient will then receive an appointment to attend Specialist Outpatients Department.
Elective Bookings
Elective Bookings unit is staffed with Enrolled Nurses and Administrators who process Elective Booking forms from Specialists Outpatients within Mackay HHS. The patient will be entered on the relevant waitlist and will receive a procedure date.
Ambulatory Care
Continuum of Care role; Discharge planning especially for elderly and complex patients. Includes liaison with Domiciliary services, Residential Aged Care Facilities and working with specialists and Emergency Department staff.
Clinical Nurse Specialists
Provide in-hospital advice and support for patients, and staff regarding patients with diseases related to their speciality. This includes assistance and education to staff in all our facilities, including residential aged care, within Mackay HHS to facilitate hospital avoidance or reduction in length of stay. Our Clinical Nurse Specialists also provide outpatient clinic appointments.
