Dauan Island Campus is one of the 16 remote island Primary campuses that make up Tagai State College. These campuses are spread across 48,000 square kilometres of ocean in the beautiful Torres Strait. The
College also has a Secondary campus and partners with the TAFE campus located on Thursday Island.
The Executive of Tagai SC are seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced primary educators with
leadership skills, to take up a temporary 6 month position of Head of Campus, Dauan Island.
This is a teaching Head of Campus role. This is an amazing opportunity for an experienced teacher with
demonstrated leadership skills, to begin their Head of Campus leadership journey.

About the School
The current enrolment at Tagai State College - Dauan Campus is approximately 36 students ranging in year levels from Kindergarten to Year 6. The campus has 2 teachers, teacher aides, local staff and a teaching Head of Campus. For most students, English is an additional language. This role is supervised by a member of the Executive leadership team.
Dauan is a small island west of Saibai and close to the Papua New Guinea border that forms part of the north western island group of the Torres Strait and is only accessible by helicopter. The effective community language is Torres Strait Creole, though many people still speak the traditional language Kalaw Kawaw Ya. The island has a population of around 130 people.
Language and cultural activities play an integral part in the school curriculum.
The College is seeking a highly effective instructional leader who is capable of enacting and monitoring the Explicit Improvement agenda. This is an opportunity for a high accomplished leader and or capable aspiring leader to continue their leadership journey as the Head of Campus of this school and build a rewarding career educating students in this unique environment.
Tagai State College provides a high level of support to leaders through a support team of experienced educators.
About the Role
As the Head of Campus you will:
- Deliver the vision of the department
- Improve the educational outcomes of students in their schools
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.
- The Head of Campus will be line managed by an Executive member of the College.
- The Head of Campus at Dauan is a teaching Head of Campus role.
- The suitable applicant must be able to demonstrate capability to meet the accountabilities of a quality teacher and has demonstrated leadership capability to lead a Campus.
