The Department of Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Education Officer (EOSD), English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) to join the South East Regional team at Hope Island. In this role, you will lead and support the implementation of strategic initiatives that enhance curriculum access and language development for EAL/D learners. Working collaboratively with schools, regional teams, and stakeholders, you will provide expert advice, professional learning, and evidence-based strategies to improve educational outcomes for EAL/D students. Your Opportunity

As the Senior Education Officer (EOSD), you will work within school and regional teams to assist classroom teachers and curriculum leaders, to develop and effectively implement responses to support the curriculum and language needs of all English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) learners.

For a full outline of the role responsibilities please refer to the role description, some responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Lead the design and implementation of strategic initiatives that enhance curriculum access and language development for EAL/D learners, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and evidence-based practices.
  • Provide expert advice and professional learning to school leaders and teachers on effective pedagogical approaches, assessment strategies, and inclusive practices that support the diverse needs of EAL/D students.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and deliver targeted programs and services that improve educational outcomes for EAL/D learners across schools and regions.
  • Utilise current educational research and data to inform planning, monitor progress, and evaluate the impact of initiatives aimed at supporting EAL/D students' English language acquisition and academic achievement.

Mandatory Requirements: 

  • You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments. 
  • Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 7.4 of the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019. 
  • When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
