About the role

The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse who is accountable for practice at an advanced level, working collaboratively within the unit and with other members of the health care team including consumers/carers, other health professionals, general practitioners and other agencies (including non-Government agencies). This role provides the delivery of clinical care and support specific to Primary Health Care within a Correctional or Detention setting.

The Clinical Nurse – Prison and Youth Detention Health Services provides contemporary clinical leadership and care within a specific area supporting the general function of the unit through the application of best practice principles, education, leadership and portfolio management in the application and role modelling of professional nursing practice standards in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA).

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the area of primary health care delivering expert nursing care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members. Greater than two years clinical experience in corrections, primary health care, emergency or rural and remote health would be highly
  • Demonstrated ability to role model excellent standards of comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care and documentation to facilitate quality patient outcomes, in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Service and professional
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff and manage delegated resources including prioritising needs and supporting day-to-day
  • Demonstrated ability to support and lead quality improvement and research initiatives within the work unit, contributing to the use of evidence based practice to facilitate improved patient
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution
