The opportunity
As a Senior Farmhand (Operational Farm Officer/Stationhand) you will:
• Provide operational support for research projects through the accurate operation, adjustment and calibration of plant and equipment including livestock handling, weighing and identification equipment and specialist research equipment.
• Undertake livestock and pasture agronomic activities including mustering, cattle husbandry, grazing land management, livestock water systems installation and operation, machine operation, agricultural Agvet and chemical application, care and maintenance of livestock to ensure welfare.
• Undertaking property maintenance activities including light fabrication, construction and maintenance of yards, fences, livestock and other water supply systems and other farm infrastructure.
• Work independently and with other staff, following instructions from supervisor and/or Research Facility Manager to successfully complete tasks to support research projects.
• Provide technical and operational support to the maintenance program for heavy plant, vehicles, equipment, infrastructure, and land assets to ensure these are research ready, functional, safe and reliable.
• Demonstrate initiative and responsibility taking by completing allocated tasks and activities accurately and to a high standard.
What we are looking for
Essential Requirements:
• A current “C” class drivers licence is a requirement for this role.
• Experience in extensive livestock and grazing property operations, farming and/or agricultural research in Northern Australia.
• Q Fever immunization/confirmation of acquired immunity or willingness to acquire.
• Capacity to live and work with a small team in a remote location.
• Possession of and or ability and willingness to acquire Chemcert accreditation
Preferred Requirements:
• Class R and HR licence.
• Current front-end loader, backhoe, dozer and grader operator's tickets
