QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role
The primary purpose of the position is to provide service and advice for the diverse range of WH&S activities and environmental technical matters which generally relate to the building, construction and maintenance
Duties and skills involved:
- Overseeing the Environmental and Safety and Health Management Systems for the relevant Region to ensure compliance is being achieved and risks are identified and managed.
- Providing workplace health, safety and environmental advice to senior management and regional staff sourced from existing legislation, industry standards and internal policy / procedures
- Supporting and assisting the region in implementing any actions needed to ensure effective and compliant environmental, safety and health processes
- Investigating dangerous incidents, hazards and workplace accidents, conduct health, safety and environmental management system audits, inspect construction sites, maintenance activities and QBuild offices and depots, and identify hazards and risks and formulate and implement preventative actions.
- Providing senior management with formal reports on health and safety KPI's and support the regional management team in the management of the rehabilitation of staff.
- Managing workplace health, safety and environmental programs and provide WHS&E support relevant to program managers in the delivery of individual works programs.
- Leading, developing and educating staff in new technologies both in the field of workplace health, safety and environment (including the management of asbestos and lead) through formal training and regular communication.
- Reviewing Environmental and Safety Management System procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
- Proactively managing the work performance and personal conduct of your staff.
Additional requirements (mandatory/desirable):
- Demonstrated experience providing advice in WHS legislative compliance requirements, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards/International Standards.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of industry, or similar industry, including the ability to identify building construction and maintenances hazards and risks and the related controls and strategies for elimination.
- Demonstrated experience in the effective development and delivery of programs and improvement initiatives across.
