About the work unit / facility

The Joyce Palmer Health Service is an 11-bed primary-level acute facility located on the Aboriginal community of Palm Island. The facility is named after Joyce Palmer, a well-known Palm Island health worker. Joyce Palmer provided care to the people of Palm Island for more than 40 years until her retirement in 1984.

Competitive salary and benefits:

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.

  • Salary range: $2878.20 to $3958.00 p.f. (HWF3)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Are you a skilled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker – Advanced (Identified) ready to make an impact?

Deliver advanced primary healthcare with minimal supervision, focusing on key health priorities and healthy lifestyle initiatives. Advocate for client needs, provide culturally respectful services, and collaborate with community members and health professionals to drive positive change.

Requirements:

  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between paypoints HWF3.1 to HWF3.5 requires:
    • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or
    • Certificate IV in Mental Health, or o Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, or
    • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.
  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between paypoints HWF3.2 to HWF3.7, or HWF3.8 (limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23) requires:
    • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or
    • Diploma of Mental Health, or o Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role.
