The Practice Support Team is dedicated to improving outcomes for young people in youth justice and supporting implementation of new initiatives. By providing targeted advice and support, the team ensures youth justice responses are evidence-based, inclusive, and grounded in the principles of Risk, Needs, Responsivity. The manager will lead a team with skills and focus on:
- Practice Support: Offering targeted advice, forums and tools for evidence based practice and complex case support to regional staff working directly with young people. This includes equipping frontline staff with the practice tools, knowledge, and strategies required to navigate complex cases effectively.

The Practice Support Team is dedicated to improving outcomes for young people in youth justice and supporting implementation of new initiatives. By providing targeted advice and support, the team ensures youth justice responses are evidence-based, inclusive, and grounded in the principles of Risk, Needs, Responsivity.
The manager will lead a team with skills and focus on:
- Practice Support: Offering targeted advice, forums and tools for evidence based practice and complex case support to regional staff working directly with young people. This includes equipping frontline staff with the practice tools, knowledge, and strategies required to navigate complex cases effectively.
- Project management: Supporting the implementation of new practice resources and projects within Youth Justice Services. This includes driving innovation and ensuring initiatives align with best-practice principles.
- Program design, adaption and Implementation: Providing guidance to ensure young people have equitable access to youth justice service responses and programs.
- Interagency coordination and systems improvement: The team collaborates extensively with other government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and community stakeholders to address systemic barriers. This integrated approach ensures cohesive service delivery and the identification of opportunities for sector-wide improvements.
As Manager, you will specifically:
- Coordinate the provision of authoritative, professional and timely advice to the Director and key stakeholders on issues pertaining to responses for young people in youth justice including community organisations and individuals.
- Lead effective stakeholder engagement on behalf of the Director with a wide range of organisations, agencies, stakeholders and offices.
- Coordinate and maintain policies and procedures, submissions, documentation, proposals and initiatives and contribute a strong practice perspective to responses.
- Manage projects of a complex, sensitive and contentious nature as assigned by the Director including leading the consistent delivery of new youth justice practice responses and services.
- Coordinate and/or conduct research into youth justice service centre and youth detention centre matters and other practices relating to young people within the community affecting the policy and operations of the department, including the analysis of findings and the recommendations of appropriate courses of action.
- Manage the team including work planning, professional supervision and financial and human resource responsibilities.
