The North Queensland Region, Student, Child and Family Connect team are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to work with young people and their family to address the barriers to school engagement with the view to support transitions to a program of education or training.

This role is offered on a temporary full-time basis, until 28 June 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About The Department of Education:

The Department of Education (DoE) is committed to ensuring Queenslanders have the education and skills they need to contribute to the economic and social development of Queensland. The Student Child and Family Connect team are dedicated to maximising learning days for young people who require support to engage with continuous learning.

Your Role:
As a Social Worker with Student, Child and Family Connect, your role is to work with young people and their families contributing to the development of a case plan that focuses on addressing a young person's individual risks and needs in relation to education engagement and attainment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing support to students that are disengaged from education and attempt to re-engage them into education or alternate pathways.
  • Identify needs and participate in the referral and planning of services for children, parents and families to community agencies such as health and welfare.
  • Act as the contact for parents/carers and the community to determine relevant issues for improved relationships between the school and community.
  • Provide assessment and brief intervention with students and parents to assist them to identify and address barriers to engaging with education.
  • Develop and implement strategies to provide information, support and encourage awareness of, and participation by, parents/carers and the community in school activities and programs.

  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children and young people.
  • Strong understanding of the factors contributing to educational disengagement.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and case management skills.
