We are looking for a Senior Principal Scientist to join our high performing team in Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity to:
• Contribute strategic and authoritative advice towards programs and initiatives at the State and National level to influence innovation and direction of Queensland’s and Australia’s biosecurity protection.
• Directly contribute respected and influential advice towards departmental, state and national policy development in biosecurity and provide expert advice on plant pest surveillance, control and containment activities.

Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity (PBPI) - The PBPI Program has an integral role in delivering BQ's vision of leading the delivery of innovative, customer focused Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity (PBPI) - The PBPI Program has an integralrole in delivering BQ's vision of leading the delivery of innovative, customer focused biosecurity services for Queensland. The Program's goal is to protect Queensland's agricultural industries, environment and communities from plant pests and diseases and facilitate trade in high quality, safe agricultural products.
As our Senior Principal Scientist, you will actively manage and lead the provision of state-wide plant pest surveillance, control and containment activities and provide timely, consistent, and comprehensive reports on activities to managers, other agencies, and relevant stakeholders. With Queensland being affected by more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, your efforts will be integral in helping the government prevent, respond to, and recover from biosecurity concerns that threaten our environment and economy.
You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:
• Lead the development and implementation of legislative and regulatory frameworks to support plant pest surveillance, control, and containment activities.
• Drive effective working relationships and support team effectiveness through communication and liaison with relevant stakeholders at the national, state, and local level to promote and improved stakeholder ability and willingness to adopt new
scientific ideas/practices and facilitate achievement of strategic biosecurity outcomes.
• Provide effective representation of the Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity Program at departmental, state, and national forums concerned with plant biosecurity in Australia.
• Drive and foster staff, program and organisational policy capability development via undertaking effective performance and development procedures for team members and sharing own knowledge via coaching and/or mentoring.
It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
