Senior Advisor

The Senior Advisor will contribute to the functional area responsible for Guide Hearing and Assistance Dogs (GHAD). The role will provide high quality support to the Principal Advisor including administering the Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act 2009 (GHAD Act).
As a member of the GHAD team, you will work towards a system of world class service delivery and public sector management. The role will suit a client focused individual with experience in working within a regulatory or compliance setting that benefits vulnerable members of the community.
You will have strong analytical and legal research skills; ability to interpret and apply legislation and guidelines; and assess risk to people with disability within the relevant legislative requirements. You will directly contribute to upholding the rights and safeguards of people with disability in Queensland.

The Senior Advisor key responsibilities are:
- Contributing to the administration of the GHAD Act in assessing GHAD trainer applications and providing identification documents to GHAD handlers and trainers in a way that upholds the rights and interests of people with disability.
- Applying analytical skills to complex decisions, including by conducting efficient and effective legal research and developing recommendations that are legally correct and administratively sound.
- Making evidence-based recommendations to senior management on assessment outcomes.
- Assessing and managing complaints about access to public places, places of accommodation and public passenger vehicles for a handler and their guide, hearing and assistance dogs under the GHAD Act and responding to other GHAD related enquiries as required.
- Preparing high quality correspondence, reports, briefs and other documents.
- Maintaining accurate records in the department's electronic databases and complying with departmental record keeping, privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Contributing to a performance and customer focused culture that delivers results to support the vision and values of the Department and to achieve its objectives.
- Advising the Principal Advisor about best practice GHAD assessment and service delivery practices.
- Researching legislative and administrative issues, providing advice to senior management on potential compliance activities, complaints management and appeals and contributing to the development of educational information and resources.
- Contributing effectively to the Government's and Department's priorities and reform agenda.
- Undertaking other tasks and activities as requested by the Principal Advisor, Manager and/or Director, Regulation and Advisory.
