Pharmacy Technician Advanced (Aseptic Production)

Contribute to patient care as a member of the CHQ Pharmacy Aseptic Production Unit (APU) by demonstrating leadership and providing advanced technical support to Pharmacists and Technicians in the delivery of an efficient and effective medicines management service in the APU and other areas. To be performed in accordance with current legislation and Australian pharmacy and medicines professional standards and guidelines. Provide technical services and promote continuous improvement in professional standards (e.g. Good Manufacturing Practice) and service delivery with minimal operational supervision.

About the Pharmacy team
CHQ Pharmacy is dedicated to providing and supporting high quality clinical and medication management services to the children and young people of CHQ. The pharmacy service has a staff of approximately 110, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, administrative staff and support staff. The pharmacy team provides services to inpatients, outpatients, hospital in the home, cancer care services, poisons information, aseptic compounding, clinical trials along with safety, quality and governance.
Role Details
- Maintain stock of medicines and equipment/consumables utilised in the Aseptic Production Unit.
- Compound sterile products in accordance with ‘Good Manufacturing Practice' and current Australia pharmacy professional standards and guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities
- Apply high level skills associated with dispensing and distribution of medicines, and compounding of complex sterile and non-sterile products including producing compounding worksheets using relevant electronic programs.
- Exercise accountability and responsibility for the quality standards for aseptically prepared products and regularly monitor practices, including product validation.
- Apply highly developed technical skills, conduct and supervise both initial and refresher training on aseptic and cytotoxic manufacturing for pharmacy staff, including staff validation.
- Co-manage the performance, training and development of pharmacy assistants, technicians and rotational pharmacists to ensure they have the required skills and competencies to meet the service needs.
- Using highly developed technical knowledge, ensure that all specialised equipment utilised in aseptic and cytotoxic manufacturing is operating correctly, cleaned, serviced and certified as required
- Participate in workplace health and safety risk assessments including manual handling, investigate reported risks, and develop, implement and monitor risk mitigation strategies
- Participate in recruitment and selection activities including development and management of local orientation processes.
- Managing activities including staff allocation, rostering, prioritising work, and coordinating the work of others
- Document and report key performance indicators to identify service delivery improvements
