The QAS Emergency Management Unit delivers statewide policies and plans, regional support, deployable resources, and training courses that maintain and strengthen the QAS response to operational escalation periods, major incidents, natural disasters, and significant complex scheduled and unscheduled events.
The Project Officer, Emergency Management Unit is responsible for the delivery of projects and work packages coordinated by the Emergency Management Unit, under the guidance and direction of the Director, Emergency Management Unit. This position will lead and coordinate the delivery of work packages and projects and facilitate successful business outcomes and benefits realisation in line with QAS strategic priorities.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:
- High level of knowledge and demonstrated skills in the use of project and change management principles and methodologies and the proven ability to establish clear plans and timeframes for project/minor work packages from implementation through to closure.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to actively manage risks and issues and provide impartial, evidence-based advice towards mitigation and resolution.
- Proven record of achievement in project management, including taking ownership and responsibility for meeting objectives, monitoring and reporting on progress against milestones and managing competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear, concise and articulate manner to a variety of audiences, including senior executives, and represent the QAS in internal and external forums.
- Effective stakeholder engagement and relationship building capability and proven commitment to quality service and collaborative teamwork.
The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:
- The incumbent may be required to travel on official business and the possession of a C class driver's licence may be required.
- Whilst not mandatory, possession of a recognised degree in information technology and certification in Managing Successful Projects (PRINCE2), including experience in the use of project management tools and systems, will be highly regarded.
- Whilst not mandatory, additional qualifications in education or emergency and disaster management related disciplines would be well regarded.
- Position may require participation in shift work (including weekends and public holidays), on-call duties and undertake overtime.
