    As the PO4 Principal Environmental Officer, Compliance you will:

  • Lead and undertake Compliance tasks, including waste levy. Therefore, experience and knowledge in the area of Waste Levy Compliance will be highly regarded, though it is not essential.
  • Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operations of a multi-disciplinary team undertaking a range of tasks including field work in:
    • compliance activities and environmental risks to key industry stakeholders and management
    • a range of projects to support continual improvement and efficiencies in business practice, processes and systems with a focus on customer service delivery and the implementation of legislative and reform agendas, strategies and initiatives across the department.
  • Assign work appropriately to the team to achieve statutory, administrative and/or other agreed timeframes by assessing the degree of risk and complexity of each work request and contribute to operational performance by monitoring and assessing individual and team activity levels and reviewing team output to ensure consistency with contemporary Administrative Decision-Making Principles.
  • Provide well-considered advice, guidance and direction to the team, managing the escalated and more technically complex matters, for the review and endorsement of approaches and/or options.
  • Liaise, consult and negotiate with a range of stakeholders including Local, State and Federal governments, industry, and community groups, to contribute to the resolution of environmental management matters.
  • Review the preparation of, and/or prepare timely and well-researched briefings, reports, submissions, publications, and other correspondence on environmental management issues.
  • Liaise, consult and work collaboratively with other business groups in ESR including legal and other technical advisors, and coordinate activities with other government departments as necessary, to support the delivery of operational activities.
  • Monitor and review approved local practices, systems and processes, to enable the team to meet its objectives and communicate changes with the team to ensure team members are aware of their obligations.
  • Manage work relationships to encourage cooperation and build capability through encouraging sharing of individual experiences, learnings and explaining delegate decisions, and by identifying opportunities for professional development.
  • Participate in the on-call roster and attend incidents out of business hours.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
