Are you ready to make a difference while advancing your career in an exciting and impactful role? We're seeking an experienced individual like you to join our
Queensland Government Insurance Fund team as Senior Claims Officer. In the role of Senior Claims Officer, General Team, you will manage a variety of claims
including personal injury, general liability, malicious prosecution, class actions, employment and discrimination claims lodged against Queensland Government
departments. You may also have the opportunity to manage additional classes of claims, including sensitive historical or medical liability claims, as needed.
In this role, you will:
• Manage insurance claims in respect of various classes of insurance, in particular public liability, and employment practices in a common law environment, ensuring that all phases comply with the timeframes prescribed by legislation and the courts and State Government guidelines.
• Investigate and analyse cases to determine liability and damages.
• Establish adequate and accurate claims estimates in line with reserve philosophy and guidelines and promote data input behaviour and awareness that results in the processing of accurate and reliable data into the business systems.
• Assess whether to appoint external parties including private investigators, solicitors or barristers to specific cases, and brief, instruct, case manage and assess
the performance and fees charged by these parties.
• Negotiate appropriate direct settlement of claims with the claimant or solicitors acting for the claimant and approve settlements, legal and other expenses in
accordance with delegations.
• Represent the organisation at settlements, court hearings, conferences and negotiations and provide instructions as appropriate.
• Prepare reports, summaries and submissions with respect to claims.
• Other tasks that support the business needs across the broader claims unit.
What experience you will bring:
• Demonstrated experience in managing claims under the PIPA, utilising best practice claims standards.
• A sound understanding of liability and causation principles and knowledge of applicable case law.
• The ability to assess the quantum of a personal injury claim including the application of the Civil Liability Act 2003 & Regulation and common law.
Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role, relevant qualifications will be highly regarded.
