The Technical Officer is part of a team in North Queensland to deliver services to conserve and protect native and threatened wildlife and associated habitat—with particular focus on:

• regulation of the Nature Conservation Act to deliver protected wildlife compliance and enforcement
• providing safe interaction between people and wildlife
• working with the community to build positive interactions between community and wildlife
• applied research to assist in the development of innovative wildlife management strategies.

Technical Officers are responsible for supporting research and monitoring initiatives relating to the distribution, abundance, population dynamics, ecology, and behaviour of native wildlife. Key duties include data compilation and analysis, conducting field- based surveys, and undertaking equipment maintenance.

The role requires regular fieldwork to assist in the delivery of wildlife research projects, often under constrained timeframes and limited resources. Technical Officers also contribute to the development and implementation of wildlife conservation programs within the Research and Monitoring Team.

Travel away from your normal centre of operations will be required from time to time.  This is likely to include overnight stays.
