About the role
The role will support First Nations peoples' participation at all Mental Health facilities across the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service by building partnerships with community members and consumers and through advocating for the needs of First Nations community members within the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service catchment.
The role will support the First Nations workforce within Community and Acute Services to achieve improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, as per the objectives of the QLD Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework 2010 – 2033 and Closing the Gap initiative.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Well-developed understanding of the social determinants of health affecting First Nations peoples, including their physical, mental, and spiritual health and wellbeing.
- Well-developed clinical skills for the delivery of evidence-based health assessments, health promotion, education, and illness prevention activities in a primary health/mental health care setting.
- High level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and the ability to develop effective partnerships with First Nations communities and with key internal and external stakeholders.
- As a member of the senior leadership team, provide cultural leadership and demonstrate high level management skills in monitoring and reporting on the outcomes and measures towards Closing the Gap in Indigenous Disadvantage across the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service, with a primary focus on Mental Health outcomes and Social and Emotional Well-Being.
- Ability to provide cultural supervision and clinical support to staff.
Mandatory Requirements:
- A Mental Health Worker at this level must possess a Diploma in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
