BYETC is a Department of Education school operating within the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. It is a multi-campus school catering to both male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, and values that enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.

The centre offers a supportive learning environment with a focus on improving literacy, numeracy, vocational skills, and life skills to help students build confidence and open pathways for their future. If you're committed to fostering equity and excellence in education, you will play a vital role in empowering young people in detention, helping them develop skills for a positive future.

The Queensland Government is committed to reforming the youth justice system to strengthen the prevention, early intervention and rehabilitation responses to youth crime in Queensland and make communities safer.

In order to maintain engagement of students across the year, Queensland youth detention centre schools' education delivery model runs over a 48-week school year. The employment entitlements for staff are the same as other State Schools however this model provides an exciting opportunity to access other flexible work agreements.  Through negotiation with the Head of Campus, the successful applicant will determine whether a regular or alternative school holiday model is accessed.

As part of this role, you will deliver tailored teaching programs that support the unique learning needs of these young people, helping them achieve meaningful educational outcomes and prepare for reintegration into their communities. You will be responsible for developing and updating educational content for various learning programs, particularly in literacy and numeracy. This includes researching and analysing subject matter, designing instructional materials, and ensuring that materials align with learning objectives and standards. The successful candidate for this role will possess strong writing and editing skills, along with expertise in curriculum design and assessment
