This role focuses on leading universal, targeted, and intensive supports within our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework by driving wellbeing and engagement initiatives across P-6, developing tailored strategies for individual student needs, and fostering strong relationships across the school community.

Your Role 

As Head of Department- Student Services, your role will include:

  • Leading the strategic implementation of the school's Annual Improvement Plan (AIP) for student wellbeing and engagement through a multi-tiered support system.
  • Supporting students' academic progress through tailored interventions and proactive evidence-based wellbeing initiatives.
  • Collaborating with Deputy Principal's to manage and respond to student behaviour and performance concerns in line with the school's Student Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborating with Head of Department - Teaching and Learning, Head of Special Education Services, Guidance Office, School Social Worker and the student support team to ensure the inclusion of all students.
  • Providing individualised support for students, develop intervention plans, and case-manage students requiring additional assistance. Including complex case support.
  • Analysing and responding to student data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.
  • Supporting teachers to increase the scope of evidenced based pedagogical and behavioural strategies used to increase student engagement, through formal professional development, classroom visits and informal support.

Key Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited, to the following;

  • Develop and implement a whole school approach to student wellbeing and social /emotional learning, including implementation of the CARF Respectful Relationships requirement.
  • Lead PBL and implementation of a whole school universal positive behaviour system of support.
  • Assist with UDL implementation with focus on engagement pillar to build
  • Student behaviour support across Prep - Year 6 including the development of support plans, including IBSP's and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement evidenced based small group targeted interventions for wellbeing and behavioural engagement (including those run by non-teaching staff)
  • Liaising with parents and carers regarding well-being, behaviour, engagement and support issues.
  • Liaising with support personnel inside and outside of the school to increase the scope of intervention for case managed students.
  • Student attendance monitoring and intervention in collaboration with DP's and student support team.
  • Leadership of the Student Council and Student Leadership team.
  • Building staff capability by delivering professional learning of evidence-based wellbeing and engagement practices.
