The Department:

About the Role:

Supporting the Assistant Crown Solicitor, this leadership role is ideal for an experienced insurance litigation lawyer ready to step into a senior position within a high performing and busy group.

Crown Law's Government Insurance and Risk Team works on complex and sensitive insurance litigation, including public liability, personal injuries and medical negligence matters acting for the State of Queensland and its agencies.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the most complex, sensitive litigation conducted by the team across all courts and tribunals;
  • Mentor, supervise and manage other lawyers in the team on a range of matters, supporting high standards of advice and representation;
  • Assist in managing team operations, including file allocation, performance development and resource planning;
  • Represent the team in strategic planning and whole-of-office initiatives; and
  • Deputise for the Assistant Crown Solicitor when required.

Skills & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland with a minimum of 8 years' PAE demonstrated insurance experience (defendant experience will be highly regarded);
  • Deep understanding of relevant legislation and court processes including the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules, Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 and Civil Liability Act 2003;
  • Strong leadership skills with experience guiding, mentoring and delegating to junior lawyers;
  • Proven ability to manage complex files and provide authoritative legal advice with a high degree of autonomy; and
  • An interest in developing systems, processes and contributing positively to team culture.
