Senior Compliance Officer (Strategy and Policy)

The Strategic Compliance Unit (SCU) is closely aligned with the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol.
The SCU are responsible to ensure high compliance with rules and regulations to ensure the sustainability of our fisheries resources through lawful use and development of fisheries habitat.

The SCU does this by:
• Identifying and driving legislative reform and amendment.
• Identifying and driving policy and procedural reform.
• Strategic oversight and planning of activities to ensure effective compliance and alignment with sustainable fisheries.
• Advising and supporting QBFP with compliance activities including prosecution of matters.
• Building effective stakeholder relationships within the Department of Primary Industries and other State and Commonwealth law enforcement agencies.

• Coordinate and manage compliance advice/policy in respect of legislative reform associated with the Fisheries Act 1994.
• Review and develop policies and practices for effective management and delivery of compliance functions within QBFP and Fisheries Queensland.
• Develop frameworks for the effective exchange of information with internal and external stakeholders in line with privacy obligations.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge and skills in the application of contemporary compliance risk assessment techniques to inform risk-based planning.
• Manage competing priorities in delivering policy outcomes.
• Develop comprehensive compliance risk assessments across Queensland's fisheries.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with QBFP and other Fisheries Queensland staff to facilitate effective collaboration on fisheries policy and procedures.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with other compliance agencies to facilitate effective inter-agency collaboration on fisheries policy and procedures as required.
• Draft clear, concise, high-quality documents (including but not limited to submissions, proposals, reports, information sheets, communiques, meeting minutes) designed to support clear and consistent communication about policy matters in ways appropriate to each reading audience
• Contribute to SCU activities and work flexibly across Fisheries Queensland, providing assistance with other duties as directed and required.
