Key responsibilities

  • Monitor road traffic crash trends and clusters on the North Coast Region network to determine the traffic demands and needs for road safety-based investment on the network and the effectiveness of the network in providing safe road transport.
  • Utilise traffic performance and traffic safety databases, indices and statistics.
  • Co-ordinate road safety audits, traffic count surveys, survey and design for project development as part of the investigation and resolving road safety issues and identifying and implementing traffic engineering solutions.
  • Communicate and liaise with other stakeholders, in particular TMR's Engineering and Technology Branch that administer the Targeted Road Safety Program and various road safety-based standards and policy, in the collection and dissemination of traffic data, development of projects and road safety performance reports.
  • Investigate and analyse road safety performance data to identify and quantify emerging crash trends, blackspots, mass action initiatives, benefits of infrastructure development proposals and recommend traffic improvement projects for funding nomination or advice to Planning business units.
  • Lead and supervise the development of nominations to the Targeted Road Safety Program.
  • Investigate and resolve road safety issues, identifying and implementing traffic engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to Regional Policies and Standards as a member of Traffic Engineering Team.
  • Provide traffic engineering leadership and support to the Region.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions

  • Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
  • A Washington Accord accredited four-year degree in Engineering or equivalence recognised by Engineers Australia.
  • Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position

Requirements of the role

  • Extensive experience in traffic engineering operations.
  • Ensures advanced rigorousness in the generation of options and consideration of external factors in implementing solutions
  • Applies an in-depth understanding of traffic analysis and provides advice on best practise solutions.
  • Applies an in-depth understanding of traffic and road safety engineering and provides advice on best practice solutions.
  • Works collaboratively with relevant parties towards maintaining mutually beneficial relations and uses networks to create future opportunities for partnerships.
