This role will be responsible for the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs aimed at maximising the talent pipeline of future Paralympic Games.
The QAS Para Unit will be run in collaboration with a wide range of Para sports (across Summer and Winter) and include para athletes ranging from those who are new to performance training through to athletes at a Paralympic representation level. This role will suit a Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Coach, or Exercise Physiologist with skills in building athletic competence and confidence and would be complemented by a strong knowledge across a variety of impairment/ disability types and/ or para sports.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Support the accelerated development of pre-categorised para athletes across technical, tactical, physical, physiological, and skill areas by leveraging applied experience in para sport and understanding the unique challenges faced by para athletes and their impairments.
• Deliver specific and relevant evidence-based strength and conditioning services, performance testing and tracking/monitoring for QAS categorised athletes, providing timely feedback to the coaches, athletes and Performance Support team members in line with each athlete's Individual Athlete Performance Plan (IAPP) and What It Takes to Win (WITTW) framework.
• Contribute to the development of IAPPs and assist in regularly reviewing the associated specific development priorities and performance metrics to measure progress.
• Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary performance support team that creates a high performance environment to provide an integrated program based on the level and needs for QAS Para Unit athletes. This includes spending an appropriate amount of time in the daily training environment (DTE) and attending scheduled Performance Support team meetings.
• Regularly liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, such as Paralympics Australia, the QAS Talent and Coaching team and other departments to collaboratively identify current sport specific S&C trends to deliver high quality integrated outcomes and work collaboratively with the wider Australian High Performance system (including State Institutes, AIS, International and Professional elite sport networks) to share knowledge and leverage opportunities, particularly with other state institute Para Units.
• Demonstrate high level responsibility for the application of agreed National Quality Assurance Standards relating to data collection, methods and equipment maintenance and utilise QAS approved systems for athlete programming, monitoring, reporting and data management.
• Stay informed and abreast of current advancement in strength and conditioning training methodologies and technologies. This includes working collaboratively on approved applied research projects which contribute to the effectiveness of the coach and athlete in training and competition.
