We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic and proactive lawyer to lead our disciplinary legal function. Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner – General Counsel, Policy and Legal Command, this Director role will lead the management of litigation and provision of legal advice and representation for QCS in respect of workplace law including:

• disciplinary matters involving QCS employees who have been subject to ethical standards investigations.
• workplace health and safety.
• industrial relations.
• discrimination; and
• other matters related to employment.

Within the context of the role responsibilities described above under “About the role', the ideal applicant will be someone who can competitively demonstrate their knowledge, skills and experiences and their suitability against the Leadership competencies for Queensland (Executive): Vision, Results and Accountability in the context of the essential requirements for this role.

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Ability to provide high-level technical legal and strategic advice and support to clients in workplace law, with strong knowledge of relevant legislation and government policy and procedure in this area and its application in the corrective services context.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and collegiately with team members and senior management, develop talent, value diversity and build effective teams to bring about the best use of resources and, using negotiation, facilitation and consultation, the ability to build credibility, trust and influence.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills necessary to produce well-reasoned, succinct, accurate and effective legal and strategic advice, submissions, briefs and reports.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to other team members and contribute to the overall cohesion and success of the goals of LSSG in a way that values performance, improvement, collaboration and innovation.
