The Budget team, within Financial Services is responsible for all facets of budget management including budget strategy, budget policy, budget maintenance, financial management reporting, financial analysis and forecasting and providing support across the department. This small team works collaboratively to meet the needs of the Department.

Working closely with the Director, the Manager, Budget is responsible for overseeing and delivering all aspects of the internal budget for the Department. This includes managing a small team, building and maintaining positive working relationships, providing high level advice and financial analysis.

As Manager, Budget you will specifically:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Lead and manage the development and monitoring of the internal budget and forward estimates process, including negotiations with stakeholders on budgetary and related financial matters.
  • Work closely with the external budget team to ensure whole of Government Tridata system budgets, adjustments and reports for the department align with the internal budget
  • Reviewing and editing Cabinet Budget Review Committee (CBRC) budget submissions including preparation of costings.
  • Provide high level advice and financial analysis to the Director, departmental organisational units and other stakeholders on complex budgeting, management accounting and diverse financial management issues.
  • Lead and manage a small team to work collaboratively with business areas to develop and manage systems, processes and tools supporting the financial management function.
  • Lead and manage the production of accurate and timely periodic financial management reporting, including cost centre and budget variance analysis.
  • Lead the timely and accurate production of management reports for submission and consolidation into reports.
  • Effectively communicate financial management advice to stakeholders (both verbal and in writing) ensuring accuracy and consistency of financial management information including cost allocation and financial performance measures.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement review of work practices, information systems and processes to enhance the financial management function.
