About the Department of Education
With over 1,200 schools spanning across the state of Queensland, the Department of Education is one of the largest public sector providers.
The Department of Education employs over 100 FTE (full time equivalent) occupational therapists across the state to support the access, participation and achievement of students with disability.
A Role with Purpose
- In Queensland state schools, Occupational Therapists support students with disability to access, participate and achieve in all school activities
- This is a 1.0 FTE (full time) position however part time applications will be considered
- Base location is negotiable within the circuit of allocated schools (including Miles, Roma, Charleville and Cunnamulla). Please enquire if you have a specific location requirement
- This position includes some overnight/multi day travel. The Department supports hybrid service delivery (face to face and virtual) and provides support in building telepractice capability
- Working in the Darling Downs South West region, you will experience genuine country hospitality, a strong sense of community and the perfect location for exploring all that outback Queensland has to offer, while remaining within driving distance to South East QLD
In this role you will:
- Develop and implement best practice, inclusive occupational therapy services in schools
- Form collaborative partnerships with schools, health professionals and families to enhance the participation and wellbeing of students with disability
- Support school staff to implement reasonable adjustments through capability building, curriculum co- planning, resource development and school improvement initiatives
- Further your professional knowledge and skills in paediatric OT practices, through the development of responsive, contemporary tiered service models that address barriers to student learning

- Ongoing peer support and mentoring from experienced therapists
- Resource grant for therapy assessment, resource and equipment purchases

Mandatory requirements:
- Possession of a degree in occupational therapy
- Current membership with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) OR eligibility to holdregistration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
