The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers is looking for a Principal Media Advisor to join our small but busy team. We're looking for a positive team member with great leadership skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills who is passionate about media and social media. We pride ourselves on our media savvy and we're looking for a like-minded colleague to join us.
You will join a three-person team within the larger Media and Communication unit and be comfortable offering media advice and guidance based on your expertise.
The Role
Working as part of a dynamic Media and Social Media team, you will provide expert advice to deliver both reactive and proactive media services for the Department. This key role will see you managing the direction and delivery of media and social media engagement strategies for complex issues and programs of work.
Reporting to the Media Manager under an account management service delivery model, you will have the opportunity to work closely with senior departmental officers and directly contribute to successfully managing the reputation of the department. To do this, you will develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members, clients, and staff at all levels. To succeed in the role, you will be motivated, and results driven with excellent relationship and written skills, attention to detail and time management.
Key Accountabilities
• Support the delivery of a professional and proactive media service that maximises awareness of the Department's programs and achievements.
• Lead the integrated delivery of media content across digital channels, including web and social media.
• Develop strategies to achieve strategic media and communication outcomes in line with departmental objectives and government priorities.
• Deliver a range of tactical media deliverables such as media releases and responses, speeches, talking points, media events, social and digital media content, media kits, and other support material required to execute effective media strategies.
• Provide strategic media advice and assist with the effective management of issues on highly sensitive, diverse, and complex matters.
• Actively monitor media outcomes, activity and identify opportunities to mitigate potential risks.
• Build and maintain effective relationships within the team, department, government agencies, ministerial officers, the media, community, and partner organisations, to achieve a seamless approach to developing and implementing media strategies.
• Foster a challenging, equitable, ethical, and safe working environment for staff, encouraging commitment, skills development, professional growth, and continuous improvement directed towards the achievement of the Department's goals and objectives.
