Townsville Hospital and Health Service are seeking a experienced and client focused Enrolled Nurse Advanced Skills to join the Anaesthetics team within the Operating Theatres Department at the Townsville University Hospital on a temporary part-time role.

The role commences 04/08/2025 - 09/08/2026, working 48 hours per fortnight.

There are 14 operating theatres with a 15th theatre due to be commissioned in the near future.

About the opportunity 

The purpose of the Anaesthetic Enrolled Nurse Advanced Skills is to provide direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to patients/clients, anaesthetists, and nursing staff within the Operating Theatre to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.

A combination of 10, 9, 8 and 6 hour shifts are rostered to ensure anaesthetic nursing coverage to all theatre lists. Continuous shift work and rostering to the on-call roster is mandatory for all staff deemed competent.

The service offers of Townsville University Hospital provides the following disciplines.

  • Cardiac
  • Neurosurgery
  • Vascular
  • Thoracic
  • Ear, Nose and Throat
  • Plastic Reconstruction Surgery
  • Maxillary Facial, Oral Surgery and Dental
  • Urology  
  • Orthopaedics
  • Trauma
  • Hepatobiliary, Gastrointestinal and Breast Endocrine
  • Ophthalmology
  • Paediatrics
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Transplant donor site only

In addition, the Anaesthetic team provides anaesthetic support to outlying departments including Medical Imaging, Brachytherapy, Endoscopy, Cathlab Services, Interventional Radiology and Mental Health.  

The theatre complex and outlying areas are supported by an 18 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit.

Competitive salary and benefits:

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.

  • Salary range: $39.25 to $41.65  p.h. (NG4)
  • 4 weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Diploma of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Highly Desirable: Evidence of completion of modules related to medication administration and peripheral intravenous therapy.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • This is a VPD risk role.
