In this role, you'll engage directly with constituents and community groups, assisting them with their concerns and connecting them to appropriate support services or advocating on their behalf to Ministers. Importantly, you'll be helping Mr Bryson Head MP and the Callide team who have a passion for rural Queensland fight for a fairer go for our communities and industries.

This role requires the ability to work independently in a standalone office environment.

Your main responsibilities as an Assistant Electorate Officer include:

  • Media and communications.
  • Supporting, assisting, and engaging with constituents and community groups.
  • Assist the Electorate Officer in providing direct confidential secretarial, executive, and administrative support to Mr Bryson Head MP.
  • Liaise with the building manager as required for maintenance issues, manage general administration and daily operations of the standalone office.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be able to:

  • Be proficient with digital tools and managing social media channels.
  • Prepare and format draft content for social media publication.
  • Liaise with and manage enquiries from constituents, groups and organisations who contact the electorate office for information, assistance and advice (via face-to-face, phone, mail or electronic means).
  • Develop, maintain and utilise networks including community referral and assistance networks, government departmental and/or ministerial offices.
  • Manage, draft and proofread correspondence for ministers and constituents.
  • Draft and publish newsletters and community updates.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Comprehensively use a range of PC software.
  • Show initiative and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Other responsibilities:

  • Undertake research into various issues.
  • Prepare reports, briefs and correspondence related to the business of the electorate, for the information and attention of the Member as required.
  • Stay informed of emerging community trends, issues, and concerns to provide information to the member on an as needs basis.

Assisting the Electorate Officer in:

  • Managing the primary email inbox and correspondence.
  • Arranging events, appointments and meetings for the Member.
  • Follow and uphold financial obligations as set by legislation and Parliamentary Service policy and procedure.
  • Check and report any technical issues associated with items of office equipment or security equipment, and assist the Parliamentary Service in annual office stocktake processes; and
  • Reporting security incidents, risks or threats that occur in the electorate office.

This is a full-time or part-time position based in Chinchilla, with a starting salary of $89,514.00 per annum (FTE). For part-time appointments, the salary will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. We are open to discuss flexible work arrangements – such as a 4-day week or 9-day fortnight,  to support work life balance. Immediate start available.

Part time applicants encouraged to apply if willing to work at least a 3-day work week.
