QPS Legal represents the Queensland Police Service (QPS) before the courts, as well as the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) & other tribunals, in relation to matters such as discipline, discrimination, inquests & appeals. We also provide legal advice and executive support to the Commissioner & Senior Executive on a range of issues including contractual & partnership agreements, statutory interpretation & release of information.

Your key accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
• Assist in managing the conduct of a professional legal practice by supporting the Director, providing leadership and guidance to a team of lawyers and building and sustaining an inclusive, safe and high performing workplace.
• Undertake complex legal matters for the Queensland Police Service and represent the organisation before the courts and tribunals.
• Provide high level strategic advice to manage legal risk to the organisation including on complex and/or sensitive matters affecting, or likely to affect, the State, the Queensland Police Service and its employees.
• Develop and maintain effective and collaborative internal and external relationships and strategic partnerships and represent the organisation at external forums and settings.
• Foster a culture of innovation including by reviewing existing processes and practices and implementing strategies to improve service delivery.
• Maintain and comply with the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.
Role Requirements
Mandatory
• Possession of a degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications
Qualification
• Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and enrolment, or eligibility for enrolment to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia
