As Principal Community Services Officer, you will specifically:
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Lead the establishment and operation of high level, strategic multi-agency initiatives.
- Develop and lead a strong, integrated Community Youth Response service system at a local level and conduct planning activities, governance and interagency meetings, service mapping and outcome monitoring and evaluation, to identify potential challenges and enhance service delivery.
- Represent youth justice at regional consultation forums, committees or working groups as required.
- Promote learning and information sharing in relation to services, networks and referral pathways within the community, through site mentoring, delivery of learning and development opportunities, and via the preparation of a range of high-quality communication materials.
- Provide leadership in the implementation of strategies that facilitate and sustain the formation of partnerships between the department and key stakeholders within the region and at a local level.
- Enhance the local regional community by actively practicing and promoting excellence in service delivery and public administration and identifying opportunities for improving regional client service.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with key stakeholders.
- Facilitate the effective engagement in the partnership of people, communities and organisations from Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- You understand the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have a demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively, and with humility, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- You will also demonstrate advanced knowledge of working with young people from diverse backgrounds including other cultural groups
- You demonstrate advanced cultural capability and are able to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols in the community you work in and understand the historical and contemporary issues that impact both cultures.
