An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Principal Assessor in an Assessment Unit responsible for reviewing allegations relating to misconduct and corrupt conduct of QCS staff.

You will:

• engage with complainants to gather information required for the assessment.
• be skilled in communicating with people from diverse backgrounds with varying communication needs applying a trauma informed approach.
• be able to engage professionally and collaboratively with all stakeholders
• conduct an assessment of available information and provide advice on next steps.
• support the development and review of operational and strategic policy, procedures and guidelines relevant to conduct issues, risk management and investigation of employee misconduct.

The Professional Standards and Governance Command (PSGC) ensures the community has confidence that Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) as a top tier public safety agency is delivering professional corrective services through a competent and confident workforce supported by strong and ethical leadership.

The purpose of PSGC is to build, drive and maintain a mature and corruption resistant culture that promotes disciplined ethical behaviour and professional practice through deterrence, education and system improvements. It reviews, determines compliance, and reports on issues relating to ethical and professional standards and behaviours.

The Ethical Standards - Assessment, Intelligence and Support Group - assesses concerns raised about staff conduct with a focus on allegations about corruption and serious misconduct.

This Principal Assessor is part of an Assessment Unit that provides an advice and assessment role in response to concerns about staff conduct referred to Ethical Standards.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • demonstrated high level knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire high level
  • knowledge of the law, policy and procedures applicable to managing staff corrupt conduct and serious misconduct allegations.
  • highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to manage a range of activities and projects within timeframes.
  • proven experience in establishing and maintaining high level relationships and protocols with internal and external clients and stakeholders
  • demonstrated high level skills and expertise in the management of complex and sensitive case management at all levels including a thorough knowledge of the concepts of natural justice and procedural fairness
  • highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including mediation and negotiation skills and knowledge of contemporary complaints and investigation processes and techniques including the ability to apply trauma informed approaches
