Policy Officer

You will work as part of the Policy Team within Weapons Licensing Group (WLG) where you will be tasked with coordinating and responding to weapons policy and activities with respect to contemporary weapons scenarios, monitoring, analysis, research and reporting.
The WLG Policy Team operates within an inclusive and dynamic working environment. Your role is an integral part of the Policy Team providing operational support through the research and development of policy positions and ensuring consistency of weapons legislation application across the Group.

Your key accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
• Undertake policy research and analysis and provide high quality, well researched advice and contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation, review and continuous improvement of legislation and policy frameworks.
• Actively contribute to the ongoing development and/or review of internal weapons policy, practices and procedures and service improvement aspects.
• Provide timely high level advice to senior management concerning QCAT decisions and emerging trends in weapons offences, licence applications and national agreements to inform policy amendments.
• Prepare submissions including Ministerial Briefing Notes, Executive Briefing Notes and briefings for various state and national forums on matters of interest to senior leadership and Government.
• Negotiate and consult with clients, committees, agents and other stakeholders in relation to Weapons policy and implementation.
• Supervision and performance management of staff.
• Coordinate or undertake special projects to achieve QPS corporate goals and strategic priorities.
