🚨 Director of Nursing – Aurukun | Permanent Full-Time 🚨
Ready for a meaningful role that starts with a yarn? Andrea Mann, 0412 880 621 would love to hear your story and answer any question you may have about the role.
We're on the lookout for a Director of Nursing who isn't afraid of challenge, thrives in unpredictability, and can bring strong clinical leadership to the frontline of remote healthcare in Aurukun, a fiercely proud Indigenous community on the western coast of Cape York.
📍Where is Aurukun?
Aurukun is home to around 1,300 residents and five clan groups of the Wik and Kugu peoples. Life here is raw, real, and steeped in culture. But let's be honest — it's also tough. Social complexity, remoteness, staffing gaps, and the need for strong community relationships make this one of the most challenging and critical Director of Nursing roles in the state.
It's not for everyone. But for the right person, this will be the most professionally rewarding role of your career.
✈️Your mission (if you choose to accept it):
- Provide visible, hands-on clinical leadership across primary and emergency care
- Steer the ship (sometimes through stormy weather — literally and figuratively)
- Mentor and support a small but mighty team
- Work in partnership with Traditional Owners, Elders, and service stakeholders
- Balance the chaos with calm
🤝About you:
- Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
- Proven experience in remote, rural or resource-limited settings
- Skilled at managing high-stress situations with professionalism and grace
- Culturally aware, deeply respectful, and ready to listen and learn
✅Let's be honest:
This isn't a role where you “manage from a distance” — this is on-the-ground, hands-on leadership. You'll be the face of healthcare in the community.
You'll earn trust and wear many hats, but you'll never be bored. You'll grow, you'll connect, and you'll make a valuable contribution where it matters most.
💰Torres and Cape will give you a career with purpose, plus excellent benefits and allowances;
