A unique opportunity exists to join a state-wide project delivering training to Queensland state school staff in the technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices, in alignment with the Department of Education's Restrictive practices procedure.
These are temporary, full-time project positions based at Central Office, Brisbane, and are available until 30 June 2027, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role:

Successful applicants will lead the delivery of this training across the state and provide high-level support, advice, and responses to ensure the implementation of a sustainable training model. You will deliver training within agreed timeframes, budgets, and quality standards.

Responsibilities Include:

The Principal Advisor, Restrictive Practices Training (Technical Skills) is required to support the delivery of state-wide Specialist Technical Skills Training in Restrictive Practices.

  • Travel across the state to deliver in-person professional learning in technical skills required for the use physical skills in restrictive practices.
  • Implement state-wide wide training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices, ensuring that the outcomes of programs are aligned to, and supportive of, the department's agenda for improvement in schools.
  • Support project planning to assist with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives related to state schooling. This includes current and emerging Australian Government and State Government initiatives.
  • Provide high level strategic advice to senior officers of the department and other key stakeholders on issues relevant to the specific accountabilities of the role.
  • Collaborate with relevant regional personnel to build local capability towards regional adoption and implementation of state-wide training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices.
  • Provide strategic advice on methods to establish and track measurable outcomes, methods for evaluating progress toward these measurable outcomes, future training plans based on these evaluations.
    • Deliver on and collaborate in the implementation of a sustainable training model to deliver training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices in Queensland state schools including (but not limited to) project management, procurement activities and contract management.
    • Collaborate with central team and key stakeholders to implement a state-wide sustainable training model to deliver technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices in Queensland state schools including (but not limited to) the organisation of participant registrations, venues, catering and travel.
    • Support the development of operational guidelines, processes and/or training plans in relation to training delivery of training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices.
    • Contribute to and implement project plans to clearly outline outcomes, deliverables, timelines, resource requirements and performance measures on time and on budget for initiatives.
    • Work with regions to facilitate delivery of training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices.
    • Support the progression of strategies and initiatives to improve the safety and wellbeing of students and staff with the aim of reducing and eliminating the use of restrictive practices in schools.
    • Identify and manage project issues, providing authoritative advice, management and correction of risks relevant to program objectives, and ensuring continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of high-quality services.
    • Establish training data collection, analyse data and provide reports for the Director, Behaviour Capability on training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices.
    • Establish and maintain effective liaison, communication and collaboration processes with regional services and schools, to support the implementation of training in technical skills required for the use of physical skills in restrictive practices.

Highly desirable skills and experience:

  • Teaching and or education experience or an understanding of, and experience involving, Queensland's state schools.
  • A demonstrated strong ability to develop sensitive and practical responses to complex issues and the ability to provide advice to senior staff where issues of quality, timeliness, sensitivity and confidentiality are paramount.
