About the school:

BYETC is a Department of Education school operating within the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, and values that enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.

BYETC offers a supportive learning environment with a focus on improving literacy, numeracy, vocational and personal skills. BYETC operates in a multi-agency environment and teachers are support by staff from a range of other government departments especially Youth Justice and Queensland Health personnel.

Reporting to the mathematics Head of Department the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality and compliant training that results in successful student outcomes. You will support students using a personalised learning approach, maintain records of student progress and contribute to the continuous improvement and strategic direction of the mathematics faculty and the school.

Experience in delivering vocational training will be highly valued, as will a demonstrated capacity to build relationships and networks with stakeholders to support young people.

Applicants for these positions must possess:

  • The ability to teach Vocational Educational and Training mathematics courses
  • The ability to differentiate the curriculum for students with differing ability levels
  • The ability to collaborate with a team and contribute positively to team culture
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students with complex needs
  • High level of word processing skills and the ability to use classroom technology such as interactive whiteboards
  • Possession of a TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. Pre-service/graduate teachers must have been granted provisional registration prior to commencing employment as a teacher. For more information regarding registration requirements, please Click Here.
  • Employment for pre-service/graduate teachers will be subject to the successful completion of a relevant teaching qualification and meeting the minimum requirements as a teacher with the department.
  • Working rights in Australia, which means you have, or you are eligible to obtain a valid Australian Visa with work rights (if you're not already an Australian Citizen or resident).
