About the role

This role is to assist the Director of Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research (QCMHR) to strategically implement and lead a statewide, multi-disciplinary mental health research program that spans neuroscience, clinical mental health research, population mental health research, and mental health services research. This is a senior leadership role and together with the executive team at QCMHR, this role will provide specialist research leadership on delivering mental health research outcomes for QCMHR.

This position will predominately work at Dawson House, located at The Park Centre for Mental Health Research and Education at Wacol, within West Moreton Health. At times, the position may be required to work with researchers in QCMHR research streams based at the University of Queensland's Herston and St Lucia campuses, Metro North Hospital and Health Service, Metro South Hospital and Health Service, and Queensland Children's Hospital.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to lead and manage a high-performing health service or research organisation.
  • Expert understanding of state-wide and multi-disciplinary mental health research program and the complex challenges involved in operating across the intersection between health services, academic partners and non-government organisations.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch (MHAODB) within Queensland Health and their strategic and operational priorities and imperatives.
  • Extensive working knowledge of tertiary academic research environments and policies, research contract negotiation processes, mental health care, health services and systems from multidisciplinary, managerial and leadership perspectives.
  • Substantial experience in strategically leading, influencing and bringing together complex groups of stakeholders to develop major research partnership opportunities; with ability to provide expert advice, negotiate with and manage complex stakeholders and research opportunities.
  • Proven exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead effectively in a high performing team and to quickly establish rapport and manage collaborative working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, disciplines and levels across the university and external public or private sector organisations.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of a Bachelor degree qualification in science, public health, social or behavioural sciences or a related field. A postgraduate degree is highly desirable. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of duties.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
