About the Team:

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award team within Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (School Improvement Branch, Department of Education), manages and implements The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (The Duke of Ed) and Bridge award programs throughout Queensland. The Duke of Ed is an internationally-recognised youth development program for young people aged 14 to 24 years and assists young people to achieve goals, learn new skills and engage with their communities.

The Duke of Ed Co-ordinator will contribute to the development and implementation of a high-quality youth leadership development program and help to support its growth in Queensland.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support a limited number of schools to increase Duke of Ed registrations and completions.
  • Support existing Duke of Ed Leaders (teachers) to streamline and improve processes and consolidate Duke of Ed operations within each school.
  • Evaluate project outcomes and learnings.
  • Promote and coordinate the exchange of ideas and program options between Duke of Ed Leaders and volunteers to enhance delivery and sustainability of the Duke of Ed.
  • Support Duke of Ed Leaders and volunteers to deliver the Duke of Ed by providing advice on program flexibility to ensure inclusivity and responsiveness to needs of students regardless of their circumstance, background and abilities.
  • Support Duke of Ed Leaders and Duke of Ed Centres to effectively administer the Duke of Ed within their school and ensure best practice through effective Quality Assurance processes.
  • Engage with schools and attend promotional events to highlight the benefits of the Duke of Ed to schools and community organisation leaders, potential Duke of Ed Leaders and volunteers, parents and students.

The Program Officer reports directly to the Manager, Queensland Award Operating Authority.

Highly desirable skills include:

  • The ability to establish strong working relationships and network with a range of stakeholders.
  • An understanding of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and its delivery within the school system.
  • Skills and knowledge related to student wellbeing and engagement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to research, develop and implement projects.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a highly productive team.
