Advanced Health Promotion Officer/ Public Health Officer

The Prevention Strategy Branch are looking for Advanced Health Promotion Officers/Public Health Officers to join their team. In this role you will provide advanced leadership for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of complex statewide preventive health policy and strategy to improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders, with a focus on reducing smoking-related harms by creating environments free from tobacco smoke and e-cigarette vapour, assisting smokers to quit, preventing the uptake of smoking products and encouraging compliance with state tobacco laws.

What you'll do

  • Provide advanced expertise in the application of evidence, theory, and judgement in planning, implementing, and evaluating preventive health policy and interventions in a range of settings and for priority population groups.
  • Provide high-level authoritative advice to senior management, partners, and other stakeholders, including members of the public, to influence strategic policy and delivery of complex and/or innovative preventive health interventions.
  • Facilitate the development of a suite of system reforms to position Queensland Health to respond to the increasing burden of chronic disease more effectively for consideration by the Queensland Government.
  • Provide leadership in the planning, implementation, and support of relevant governance processes to facilitate appropriate and necessary input from decision makers to ensure policies deliver the best outcomes for Queenslanders.
  • Strategically monitor and evaluate preventive health initiatives, objectives and strategies based on the analysis of data and ensure findings are shared to build the evidence base and improve preventive health policy and planning.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • At least a tertiary degree in Health Promotion or Public Health. 
  • Demonstrated advanced level of knowledge, expertise, and skills in the development of effective solutions to complex statewide preventive health policy challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead strategic change through effective communication, consultation, and negotiation skills and through shaping policy and/or program reforms, driving innovation and enabling quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders that contribute to improved health and wellbeing for Queenslanders.
  • Ability to successfully lead and manage a small team, set direction, motivate, and inspire staff, and promote an environment where staff are valued, developed, and coached to perform at their full potential.
