Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

The primary purpose of this temporary role is to deliver enforcement of the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998, Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 and related national legislation. You will be responsible for conducting routine compliance inspections and undertake evidence gathering during targeted enforcement and where necessary prepare briefs of evidence and appear in court hearings.
The Sunshine Coast Public Health Unit is made up of a diverse multidisciplinary team, including medical officers, nurses, environmental health officers, epidemiologists, data officer, and administrative staff. The unit undertakes a broad range of functions, including communicable disease control, immunisation, surveillance, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Take appropriate enforcement action against persons found to be contravening public health legislation, including the routine compliance inspections, and serving of statutory notices and fixed penalty notices where appropriate. This will also include gathering evidence, writing reports and attending Court.
- Undertake joint investigation and enforcement action with partners, such as Public Health Unit Environmental Health Officers, Queensland Police Service, agencies of the Illicit Tobacco Task Force and Therapeutic Goods Administration.
- Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Remuneration value up to $125,735 p.a., comprising salary between $103,423 - $110,201 p.a., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (TO4). (Two fixed term temporary full time positions, 76 hrs p.f. until 25/07/2027). Applications will remain current for 12 months.
