The role of the Senior Learning and Development Officer is to develop and deliver a range of learning options for staff at the four youth detention centres in Queensland (3 in Brisbane and one in Townsville). The role will have a particular focus on re-developing existing face-to face training sessions into e-learning and blended learning options, in ways that are engaging for frontline staff and enable them to be well prepared for these challenging frontline roles.

As a Senior Learning and Development Officer, you will specifically:

  • Develop and deliver learning solutions that contribute to the achievement of youth detention centre workforce and business objectives.
  • Use a range of technological programs to design, develop and deliver learning solutions.
  • Build and sustain professional relationships with key youth detention staff and stakeholders to ensure content is contextualised, relevant and targets the appropriate audience.
  • Provide authoritative advice to management and staff on a range of strategic learning and development issues and solutions relevant to the operations of youth detention centres.
  • Prepare submissions, reports, executive briefs and correspondence on a range of learning and development issues.
  • Represent the Youth Detention Training at relevant forums and meetings.
  • Conduct appropriate research and analysis of learning and development issues to assist with strategic and workforce planning and policy objectives and ensure training is contemporary, evidence-based and best practice.
  • Participate as part of a cohesive high performing team in which all members' contributions are valued and encouraged. Provide leadership to team members and support capability uplift and professional development.
  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
