As Principal Curator First Nations Cultures, you will:

  • Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of First Nations and Archaeology research, collection acquisition, access, consultation and collaboration, in conjunction with Head of Program
  • Manage and mentor staff and maintain diverse reports within the First Nations Cultures and Archaeology work units and work closely with the First Nations team
  • Establish national and international networks to promote the use of the Queensland's Cultural and Historical collections.
  • Conduct research in a specialist subject area within the priority themes of the Queensland Museum in collaboration with researchers from other research organisations, leading to internationally recognised peer-reviewed publications, popular publications and other media outputs.
  • Partner with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples to establish and maintain safe, inclusive channels for engagement with Queensland Museum.
  • Seek external funding, including Discovery and Linkage Projects through the ARC, to provide research outcomes consistent with the strategic directions of the Queensland Museum
  • Liaise with and provide expert advice and information about Queensland's cultural collections to, other areas of the museum, professional bodies and other groups outside the museum including government.
  • Strategically enhance and build the State collections through field work, collaborative research and coordination of philanthropic support/donations
  • Ensure that Queensland Museum collections are managed and new material acquired within the principles of ‘Due Diligence'. Foster value-adding research work on the collections by external, honorary and other researchers to a level of high international standing
  • Contribute to, and participate in, the Museum's public exhibition, communication and education programs to promote access to the collections by stakeholder communities and researchers. Deliver formal and informal lectures / talks in a variety of forums and provide advice in response to public and professional inquiries.
