As a key member of the People and Culture team, the Principal HR Advisor will drive innovative and strategic human resource initiatives that enhance organisational performance, integrity, and governance. This role offers the opportunity to lead and influence across a diverse range of HR functions, including employee relations, performance management, ethical conduct, reporting and organisational development.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping a high-performing, values-driven culture by providing expert advice and solutions to complex workplace challenges. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure the department’s HR practices align with contemporary standards, legislative requirements, and strategic objectives.

About the role
As the Principal HR Advisor, you will:
• Lead and deliver strategic, solution-focused HR advice across the employee lifecycle, with a focus on complex workplace matters including performance management, conduct, and employee relations.
• Influence and support the development of a high-performing, ethical, and valuesled culture through capability building, coaching and practical workplace strategies.
• Manage sensitive and complex casework in accordance with relevant legislative frameworks and departmental policies, including Conduct and Performance Excellence (CAPE), Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) and Public Interest Disclosure (PID).
• Design and deliver internal development initiatives, training and resources that build organisational capability in performance, conduct, and workplace culture.

The position requires an applicant who can:
• Bring deep expertise across employee relations, performance management, and organisational culture, with a proven ability to navigate sensitive and high-impact matters.
• Demonstrate strong capability in interpreting and applying legislation, policy and governance frameworks to support integrity, accountability and sound decisionmaking.
• Think strategically, using data, insights and evidence to shape workforce initiatives, influence stakeholders and drive continuous improvement.
• Builds trusted relationships with leaders, peers and partners through a collaborative, coaching-focused approach that strengthens organisational capability.
• Communicate with influence, preparing high-quality, tailored written and verbal advice that supports informed action and compliance.
