Get paid to live in paradise and join Alcohol Diversion Program, Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service as a Needle and Syringe Program Officer. You will work within the Needle Syringe Program (NSP) through the provision of a comprehensive range of sterile injecting equipment and provide evidence-based education, information, and brief intervention strategies to promote the health and wellbeing of people who inject drugs (PWID). You will work in partnership with internal and external agencies and assist with local and national research/surveys. You will promote and advocate for safe access to services for all clients and support people who use drugs to navigate barriers to accessing the wider health system.

About us: The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.
About your role:
- Provide brief interventions, education, information, and referrals to NSP clients on topics such as safe disposal, blood borne viruses and other harm reduction topics appropriate to injecting drug use.
- Assess and monitor service users who present at the NSP at risk of overdose or in distress due to risky substance use.
- In collaboration with clinical AOD staff, encourage clients to participate in Hepatitis C testing and treatment.
