About the work unit / facility
Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU) fulfils the public health regulatory services on behalf of the Department of Health to ensure sound public health standards are maintained in communities. The TPHU is a multidisciplinary team consisting of a public health physician, public health nurses, environmental health officers, an epidemiologist, entomologists, operational officers, and administration officers.

- Salary range: $128,169 to $137,918 p.a. (HP4)
- 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading

About your opportunity
- This position will have a major focus undertaking compliance and enforcement activities under the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998.
- Deliver routine and complex regulatory and non-regulatory environmental health services and public health programs to protect, promote and prevent risks to the community arising from environmental health hazards that impact on the natural and built environment and human health. This position may be involved in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander communities.
- Provide high level clinical advice, whilst exercising independent professional judgement, to peers and relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
- The successful applicant must hold a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification that is accredited by Environmental Health Australia or deemed eligible for appointment by the Queensland Health Environmental Health Officer Appointments Review Committee.
- Significant travel may be required due to the geographical scope of the position, including stays of up to two weeks in remote Indigenous communities. This may include travel in light aircraft or boat. A corporate vehicle is available on a booking on priority needs basis and a C class licence is required.
