The Senior Policy Officer will assist in developing policy relating to QPS watchhouses to address recommendations from inquiries, inquests and reviews.
Your key accountabilities:
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Provide high quality, well-researched advice to senior management in relation to issues effecting policing of custody operations and respond to such issues by developing effective policy options and strategies.
- Perform project and research tasks aimed at the investigation, analysis and evaluation of issues affecting custody operations.
- Contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary team to the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of Whole of Government strategies and Queensland Police Service strategic and operational plans related to policing custody operations.
- Monitor, evaluate and review policies, legislation and practices across Government and within the Queensland Police Service, which impact on custody operations and liaise and negotiate with those agencies to achieve an appropriate holistic response.
- Prepare correspondence, briefings and submissions for senior management, the Minister, Cabinet and other diverse audiences regarding custody operations.
- Produce timely and accurate information to be used for the purpose of evaluating programs, providing a basis for planning and policy development, and the assessment of legislative impacts on policing custody operations.
- Consult and liaise effectively with other areas of the Queensland Police Service and relevant Government departments and non-government organisations on custody operations issues, as appropriate, and represent the Queensland Police Service on inter-agency forums.
