The Mental Health Review Tribunal (Tribunal) is seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for the role of Deputy President. The role is anticipated to commence from February 2026.

The Tribunal is an independent government body operating in accordance with the Mental Health Act 2016 (Qld). The Tribunal's primary purpose is to review the involuntary status of persons with a mental illness and/or intellectual disability. Further information regarding the Tribunal can be found here.

The Deputy President fulfills a senior leadership role within the Tribunal and ensures that the Tribunal operates within its statutory and ethical obligations. The role is also primarily responsible for the professional learning and development framework for Tribunal members.

A person eligible for appointment as the Deputy President must:

  • be a lawyer of at least 7 years standing; and
  • have, in the Minister's opinion, sufficient knowledge of administrative law and the Mental Health Act 2016 (Qld).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds, are encouraged to apply.

People with lived experience are also encouraged to apply.

Appointments are made by the Governor in Council.
