Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) is providing a temporary opportunity for a highly experienced Director, Legal to join the Corporate Leadership Team.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Directors are responsible for providing expert advice to stakeholders; and provide direction and leadership, enabling and supporting the regulation of safety and health in Queensland's resources industries in line with RSHQ's strategic plan.

The Director, Legal provides expert advice to senior stakeholders, leads the development and implementation of RSHQ's legal strategy and systems for managing its legal risks, and directs the legal functions across RSHQ.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Financial stewardship
  • Efficiently managing team resources and prioritising workloads to deliver outcomes
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders on a range of complex issues

As Director, Legal, the role is responsible for:

  • Providing expert legal advice to Senior Executives and internal stakeholders to facilitate management and resolution of a diverse range of legal, regulatory and compliance matters impacting RSHQ's capacity to achieve its strategic goals
  • Leading RSHQ's legal function, including providing leadership and guidance to our small team
  • Effectively managing service delivery, including productive relationships with external legal providers and advisers and ensuring quality of service delivery
  • Keeping abreast of contemporary legal advancements and develop innovative legal options in response to challenging operational requirements
  • Assessing and responding to the impact of changes in the operating environment on relevant legislation, legal, policy and regulatory frameworks to ensure a high level of integration with the broader context, including RSHQ's strategic goals and role within government
  • Leading RSHQ's legal team in providing expert legal services
  • Managing external provider relationships and outputs

Degree qualifications in law and admission as a legal practitioner eligible to practice in Queensland is essential.
