Principal Biosecurity Officer

We are looking for an Animal Biosecurity and Welfare officer to join our highperformance team at Biosecurity Queensland – Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Operational team.
• Independently conduct and oversee activities to achieve efficient and effective delivery of operational goals working and in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
• Team leadership capacity. As a team leader you will model and nurture a positive team culture and actively contribute to team capability development by coaching and guiding colleagues and sharing your knowledge, skills, and experience.
• Where required, conduct and directly supervise the work of a team of Biosecurity Officers to ensure tasks are undertaken correctly and safely.

Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a vital role in securing the state's agricultural prosperity and preserving and protecting the health of our environment and economy. Biosecurity Queensland monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation. Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.
As our Principal biosecurity officer, you will provide operational services that protect and enhance animal biosecurity and welfare in Queensland.
• Undertaken compliance activities under Queensland legislation Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and the Biosecurity Act 2014.
• Thorough knowledge and skills relating to administration and compliance with relevant legislation and associated internal procedures and systems (e.g., exercise of powers, auditing, investigation, conducting interviews, collecting evidence and witness statement and preparing court briefs, use of BQ Case Management).
• Participant and contribute to disease surveillance and emergency responses activities, which may include collection of samples from the live and deceased animal.
It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
