Townsville Hospital and Health Service are seeking client focused Assistant in Nursing to join the Nursing and Midwifery Staffing Team for permanent part-time roles.

The Assistant in Nursing provides essential support to Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Midwives (RM) and Enrolled Nurses (EN) in delivering safe, person-centred care to patients and their families.

Works under the supervision and direction of a RN or RM, in alignment with the NMBA’s decision-making framework.

About the work unit / facility

The Nursing and Midwifery Staffing Team (NMST) provides flexible workforce support across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. Assistants in Nursing (AINs) are allocated on a shift-by-shift basis to a wide range of clinical units, including medical, surgical, mental health, maternity, intensive care, and more. They are also required to work all three shift types (morning, afternoon, and night duty).

AINs working within NMST have the opportunity to gain experience across both acute and non-acute settings, including adult, paediatric, and mental health services, as well as specialty areas such as community and rural healthcare. This dynamic allocation model supports the development of broad clinical skills and contributes to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the service.

Competitive salary and benefits:

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.

  • Salary range: $33.20 - $36.35 p.h. (NG1-1)
  • 5 weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Highly Desirable: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:
    • Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
    • Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, or
    • Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies
  • As determined by Line Manager
    • National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Screening Check: As a Health Care worker in Queensland Health who engages in risk-assessed roles, you must hold a current disability check (Yellow Card or Yellow Card Exemption) or a NDIS worker screening check, in accordance with Part 5 of the Disability Services Act 2006 (Qld).
    • Blue Card Checks: Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check' from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position. 5.1.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.
